This image of the lights, and hands, of a concert in Portland Maine earlier this year, was one that struck me for having a distinct setting. This picture evokes many emotions and reactions within me. Firstly is the memory of the concert itself, the music and the events that took place over the course of the night. However, even though nobody else would get the same experience when looking at this picture, I believe someone could look into this photo and take away a bunch of things about the setting where it was taken. I believe the energy that was going on in this concert hall is felt through this photo. With the strobe lights and people’s hands waving, I can also begin to picture other things like how loud it would have been at this time here, or how hot it must have been due to the amount of people so close to each other and the rolled-up sleeves on the person in front. This photo was taken on a beach in Belize during a travel course I took last semester. This picture reminds me very much of the opposite as the picture before. Instead of energy and darkness, it is calm in this photo. The water is very calm and the pelicans hanging out on the boat show that they were calm themselves as well. This blue sky with clouds fading back to the horizon helps build on the mood of this photo. I believe the chipped paint on the boat tell something about the setting here as well. I believe this picture and it’s setting would be largely different if it were these three pelicans sitting on a very nice yacht or brand new fishing boat, unlike this used, old, worn down boat that was docked up to a tree. This third photo was one that interested me. Although it does not tell much about the setting, just a cat (Simba) sitting on the back of the couch, the mood of the setting comes through in this one. The black and white effect gives a darkening feeling to the picture, as well as the overdramatic shadows that were created on the wall. The way that Simba is staring into the camera builds the drama within this photo, as well as the larger shadow on the wall behind him, makes him seem a little more intimidating to me.
